Winter is here and there is much that one can do to prepare his or her home for it. Winterizing one’s home means preparing it for the season and whatever it may bring. The first thing that a person can do to winterize the home is prepare a emergency kit. Snow storms and hurricanes may occur during the winter, so it is of critical importance that they be prepared for beforehand. An emergency kit should contain non perishable food items, flashlights, emergency phone numbers, candles, and bottled water. The second thing a person can do is inspect the furnace to make sure that it is working properly. Even though a person can do this, it is best to call in a professional to inspect it.
Another thing that a person can do to winterize his or her home is prevent the plumming from freezing. This can occur when the temperature drops below 32 degree farenheit or O degrees celsius. People should keep their water running at a slow drip at night, drain all water hoses, and keep the heat in their homes set at atleast 55 degrees to prevent this from happening.
